Summers Nurseries

Where Little Dreams Start

Mealtimes and Nutrition

At all our Summers Nurseries we believe that healthy eating habits start young. All our meals and snacks are freshly prepared on the premises by our dedicated cooks and are well balanced and nutritious.

Children look forward to an optional breakfast with a healthy variety of cereals or toast, and a snack in the morning and afternoon - examples might be pancakes, breadsticks or home baked pizza - with a variety of fresh fruit always being served at the same time.Children in the 3-5 rooms have the opportunitiy to make their own snacks and simple meals. They are encouraged to serve themselves at lunch and snack times.

A two course lunch is always offered to those children attending full day or morning sessions.

Each nursery offers a five week rotation of menus which have been created with the use of the Nutritional Guidelines and Adventures in Foodland.

All children are offered fresh milk daily and are able to help themselves to drinking water throughout the day.

Good food always starts with good quality fresh ingredients - we source only from trusted and respected local suppliers.

Meals

Wholesome and nutritious two course lunches are available to all children attending morning and full day sessions. Breakfast, morning snack and lunch are included in the morning session and full day price. Afternoon snack is included in the afternoon session and full day price.

All snacks always include a variety of fresh fruit, and a choice of milk or water.

There are 5 weekly lunch menus and 3 weekly snack menus which are rotated. Please see the parents' notice board in the main hallway for the menus on offer. All our meat is sourced from Aberdeenshire Larder, and fresh fruit and vegetables are sourced from TPS Fruit and Veg in Turriff, both of whom supply many of Aberdeenshire's top hotels.

We follow the Nutritional Guidance for Early Years when reviewing our menus. We also follow the NHS Grampian guidelines for children under 12 months of age.

All dietary requirements will be catered for. Children who have a history of allergies in the family should not be introduced to fish, shellfish and citrus foods all at once when their child is weaning. Parents should notify us if this is the case.
